“I love doing laundry! (Except for putting it in the dryer, taking it out, folding it and then putting it away…)”
Who can relate?! Laundry: the never-ending issue that everyone has. Let’s focus on indentifying how a hard working laundry room design looks and, most importantly, functions!
Many clients ask us to help with a very practical (yet important) room in the house: the laundry room. Whether it’s a quick budget friendly re-fresh or a whole Re-Design/overhaul, we can help identify how to improve the function and aesthetics of your laundry room so dirty laundry is, well… less of a chore.
As with any design project, let’s talk about function first. We like to divide the laundry room into 4 basic functions. Sorting, washing/drying, folding/hanging and ironing. Organization is key and will help make your laundry room function better, even when all the hampers are full. 😉
Let’s look at some inspirational laundry spaces from our Pinterest, as well and examples of design savvy ways to transform your laundry space!
The Laundry Closet.
Just because you have a small space doesn’t mean you can’t have great function and accessibility for all of your laundry needs. Below are images of laundry nooks that get the job done.
Stacking the washer and dryer allows for casework or hampers off to the side.

Pro Tip: Small spaces hold color and pattern well. Try a peel and stick wallpaper for an instant visual refresh. Have existing upper cabinets? Paint them and add hardware to be extra budget friendly. Utilize the inside of doors to maximize every square inch of precious space. Add hooks or a vertical tool organizer for mounting an ironing board.
The Dedicated Laundry Room
First and foremost, we recommend selecting the washer and dryer appliances and identifying the location they will sit. Keep in mind power and water needs and any limitations. Next, identify your laundry process. Do you prefer to have ample counter/ folding space? If so, consider nesting your appliances under the counter to save space. Also consider using the laundry room as a hub for organizing cleaning supplies. Check out the inspiration images below for examples of layout and aesthetics.

Organizational Details that just look…better.
Choose easy and effortless ways to store and disguise cleaning supplies. Think: upcycled glass jars, woven baskets or metal canisters. There’s no reason why the laundry room can’t be styled to reflect your taste. Get creative!
